Introducing: ‘The Proust Questionnaire’

7.April.2011

Because I’m celebrating my birthday today, I figured this was the perfect time to answer some questions from the Proust Questionnaire, which I first encountered in Vanity Fair. Below are the first nine questions (out of the twenty-nine).

Read the entire Proust Questionnaire—with my corresponding answers—here.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Having an entire day without being asked to do anything, by anyone—especially your superiors; drinking homemade coffee while reading a book in absolute peace-silence-solitude; having a conversation without filters.

What is your greatest fear?

Going blind or deaf, or—heaven forbid—both.

Which living person do you most admire?

My parents.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

Hypocrisy.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

Procrastination.

What is your greatest extravagance?

My ever-growing book and DVD collection.

What is your idea of a perfect journey?

Wandering aimlessly—alone, or with a friend or two—in a picturesque place where I know absolutely no one.

On what occasion do you lie?

For fun, to prove a point, to get out of a boring conversation, to protect someone who made an unfortunate mistake, when kids ask me about sex, or as a last resort when things go horribly wrong.

What is your favorite occupation?

People watching. Or as they call it in the academe, naturalistic observation.

Happy birthday, Jedo! Hope you had a great one. Actually you still have 30 minutes to celebrate it… and ponder on the fact that you’ve just gotten a year older, haha!

    Wala ba tayong pa-burger? 😀

I like that Proust questionnaire; your answers are very interesting and insightful. I agree with you on hypocrisy.

Thanks, dear. I had a great one! 🙂 Those last 30 minutes of “my day” were spent surfing online and watching Conan, while having cake and coffee. And yes, I took a moment to ponder on the fact that I just got a year older.

The Proust Questionnaire is a really good way of summing up a person’s mentality-personality-worldview. I’m glad you found my answers interesting and insightful, and that we agree on hypocrisy as the most deplorable trait in others.

      Pa-burger? Sige ba! 😀

Of course I’d still accept your greeting. It’s not like I can refuse it, really. 😉

Thanks, mate. I will keep on rocking. I think I know who you are. It’s good to know that you’re still rocking as well. 😀
